About Us
A baby changes lives. It doesn't matter if that small person has never drawn breath, or has lived only a short time, for the people who are left, things are never the same again. The death of a baby is the loss of a person and the loss of future dreams. At Sands, we know how precious and irreplaceable each baby is and how they will always be a part of the lives of those who loved them.

Introduction

Welcome to Leeds Sands, a local branch of national charity Sands (the stillbirth and neonatal death charity) Charity No. 299769.

We are a group of bereaved parents who provide support for anyone affected by the death of a baby, either before, during, or shortly after birth. The support we provide is free of charge and is open to all bereaved parents, their families and friends, no matter how long ago the loss occurred.  We work with and promote the three core aims of Sands as a national charity, which are:

  • Support anyone affected by the death of a baby
  • Work in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families
  • Promote research and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives.

We have close links with Leeds General Infirmary and St James's Hospitals and provide support and information to Health Professionals, as well as parents and their families. Leeds Sands offer the following:

  • Monthly Support Meetings
  • Local information line
  • Email Information
  • Facebook and Twitter
